Silicon Valley's "First Phone Company" Triples the Size of its Developer Community

Nearly 2,000 Developers Have Registered to Get Access to the Ribbit Development Platform - Up from Approximately 650 since Launch on Monday
Ribbit Also Experiences Huge Surge in Interest From Investors, Partners, Customers and Prospective Employees

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- December 21, 2007 -- Ribbit, Silicon Valley's first phone company, today announced that nearly 2,000 developers have registered to get access to the Ribbit development platform - more than triple the number (652) of developers that the company had on Monday, when the company launched. Ribbit has also experienced a great surge of interest from investors, partners, customers, and prospective employees.

"It's been a great first week for our new company," said Ted Griggs, Ribbit CEO and co-founder. "As the provider of an innovative development platform, a key metric for us is the size of our developer community. But, just as important as that number, is the diversity and quality of the people who are speaking with us today. The response from the Silicon Valley, technology and business communities has been extraordinary."

At the core of Ribbit's technology offering is a sophisticated, open platform that enables developers to bridge the worlds of traditional telephony and the Web. The Ribbit SmartSwitch™ -- evolved from a Lucent-tested CLASS 5 softswitch -- and open Flash/Flex-based API (application program interface) enables non-telephony developers to quickly build innovative, rich voice applications and integrate them into Web sites, communities and applications.

By connecting voice from any Flash-enabled browser to the PSTN (public switched telephone network) and new VoIP (voice over IP) networks, over 750 million computers become the next generation of phones with developers deciding how they work. With an assortment of back-office and service delivery infrastructure, the platform also enables developers to not only build services, but sell them as well.

Ribbit Is Challenging their Developer Community for Innovation
"The developer platform has already generated a number of innovative solutions," said Charles Freedman, Director of Ribbit's Developer Platform. "The size of our community is soaring and we expect market-ready solutions to begin launching early in the next year."

In this week's news, Ribbit also announced they would be providing developers a way to make money creating Ribbit applications, by providing them a mechanism to market and distribute their applications. In addition, to spur further innovation, Ribbit has also announced a challenge to its community, offering rewards for the best Personal Ribbit phone applications. For details on the challenge, go to http://developer.ribbit.com/blog.

"Coding with our breakthrough communications technology provides more than enough incentive for building solutions on our platform," said Freedman. "This new challenge lets us stoke the community to come up with really amazing concepts, adding a bit of a race to build the next killer web or desktop phone application. By offering developers a simple goal with exciting prizes, we can let the community raise the bar on innovation. Ultimately, it is our commitment to great technology and community support that truly enables developers to build great things."
