The Rise of the Open Network, eComm 2010 Presentation

Thursday, April 1st, 2010 | located in Conferences/Events, Public Speaking | No Comments »

JP Rangaswami, Chief Scientist/Chairman, British Telecom/Ribbit will be discussing ‘The Rise of the Open Network: Or How I was David Isenberged into Submission’ during the eComm Conference on Monday, April 19th at 10:07am (Salon E).

JP’s sessions is based on “The Rise of The Stupid Network“, a seminal paper written thirteen years ago by a hero of his, David Isenberg. Since that original paper, the commoditization of hardware has continued apace: bits are no longer as closely coupled with atoms as they used to be. Software is more and more driven by platforms and communities, as the “invisible engine” takes root. JP will look at these trends from the perspective of Ribbit: its acquisition by BT, its integration into the wider community of BT, the role now played by the startup within the larger enterprise, and the lessons we can take from that experience.

Put iton your calendar people. It is sure to be a discussion you won’t want to miss.

Ribbit to present at Mobile World Congress on Mobile Cloud Computing

Thursday, February 4th, 2010 | located in Conferences/Events, Public Speaking | No Comments »

The Ribbit team is headed to Barcelona (without me) to participate in the Mobile World Congress taking place February 15-18, 2010. The event is sure to be packed with cutting edge products and technologies that will shape the world of mobile computing.

Heading to Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress

We’ll be walking the show floor, capturing some shots of cool gadgetry, interviewing smart people, hanging out in sessions, drinking good wine with the locals and will be on hand when Crick Waters, co-founder of Ribbit, steps into a panel discussion on ‘Building the Mobile Cloud’. The panel takes place February 17th at 4:40pm and sitting on the panel with Crick will be:

  • Didier Jaubert, Senior Vice President, Global Services, Orange Business Services
  • Vikram Saksena, Chief Technology Officer, Tellabs
  • Steve Mannel, Media & Communications Industry Director, Salesforce

We will have lots to share from Barcelona, and might just have a few more announcements coming next week. :)

If you have never been to Barcelona (like me), take a moment and flip through the Flickr set of MorBCN. I love experiencing cities through the eyes of the local people, and even more so when they use HDR to capture the vibrancy of their favorite spots. Love. Love. Love his work.

Ribbit on the road

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009 | located in Conferences/Events, Public Speaking | No Comments »

There is a little something for everyone here and hoping to lay our eyes on you at one or more of these events:

Microsoft PDC: November 17-19, 2009 in Los Angeles, CA. Join Mat Taylor, Joe Black, Wes Leonardo and Lisa Chand on the show floor in the Ribbit booth. Think they have plans to buy some drinks while there, so make sure to hit them up if you see them!

Dreamforce: November 17-20, 2009 in San Francisco, CA. We just announced the Ribbit for Salesforce 2.0 release so make sure you stop by our booth (#317) and ask the team to give you a demo of the voice to text record creation, SMS (text) messaging from the web and so much more.

  • You should also catch our very own Greg Goldfarb (vice president and general manager of enterprise applications) during his “Sales 2.0: Boosting Rep Productivity with the Best New Web Technologies” session on Friday (10:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m) in Esplanade 300.
  • And our good friend (and Ribbit for Salesforce loving client), Will Stacy, will be taking the stage during Dreamforce in the “Mobile Round Table: Success Stories from the Trenches” on Thursday (2:45 pm) in Room N125.

Supernova: December 1-3, 2009 in San Francisco, CA. Join Ribbit’s Crick Waters and BT’s JP Rangaswami and Kevin Marks in three killer sessions.

Algonquin College Meet Ribbit. Ribbit meet Algonquin College.

Friday, May 8th, 2009 | located in Conferences/Events, Public Speaking | No Comments »

While strolling the halls at FITC, I caught up with Steve Griffith who is a Professor in the Multimedia Department at Algonquin College (in Ottawa) and was pleasantly surprised to hear he showcased the Ribbit API to his students this past semester.

It was lovely to hear the words “Ribbit API” and “blew my students away” in the same sentence.

Another professor, John Willman, who works in the same department as Steve was there with us, and I think there is now a little competition going between them to see who can come up with the most creative way to show off this technology when school reconvenes in the Fall. I can’t wait to see what they do and just ask that there be no blood shed in the process. :)

I will say the highlight of my Algonquin lovefest was meeting Dan Morton (sorry Steve and John) who was one of Steve’s students this past semester. Dan’s enthusiasm around the Ribbit API was awesome and really makes me want to reach out to more universities and colleges to see how we can help shape future courses as we have a real sweet spot in the multimedia world. Big ups to Dan as well for participating in our little video montage. You rock buddy.

Ribbit heads to eComm and Sales 2.0

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009 | located in Conferences/Events, Public Speaking | No Comments »

I think we shall just call the month of March, “conference month”, as it seems there is something going on every week, which is a good thing I guess, as it means more chances for you to meet the Ribbit crew!

The team is fully rested from last week’s TechCrunch event, and now head to:

eComm 2009: March 3-5, 2009 in Burlingame, CA
Crick, Martin and Wes will be leading sessions (info below) and you will find several Ribbert[ers] roaming the halls over the three day conference.

  • Ribbit API for the Flash Platform, led by Wes Leonardo (Sr. Flash Platform Engineer, Ribbit) on Tuesday, March 3rd from 7:30 - 8:30 PM in Salon H - Join Ribbit Sr. Developer Platform specialist Wes Leonardo as he shows you the nuts and bolts of the Ribbit API for the Flash Platform. See how easy it is to make phone calls, check voicemail and send SMS messages straight from your web application. Ribbit makes adding these voice-over-the-web solutions easy to implement with a very easy to understand API. If you want to add the latest web technology to your applications, you’ll need to check out this session.
  • Where’s the money in Voice 2.0? led by Martin Geddes (Head of Strategy, BT) on Thursday, March 5th from 4:00 - 4:15 PM in Salon E - In the Voice 1.0 world — a trillion dollar business — the revenues came from selling minutes and calling features. In future, a very different business model will drive growth. Value increasingly comes from managing interactions between businesses and consumers — getting the right people together on the right medium at the right time; and from transactions during those interactions. Martin shares some of the latest research and ideas on how this will happen.
  • TeleDarwinism led by Crick Waters (Co-founder, SVP Strategy and Business Development, Ribbit) on Thursday, March 5th from 4:15 - 4:30 PM in Salon E -”Transmutation” through “survival of the fittest” or “genetic migration?”  Will the convergence of programmable telephony and Internet communications change the evolutionary mechanism of this two trillion dollar industry?  Telecommunications is not the first industry to face disruptive technology shifts that destabilize and threaten incumbent business models. Far from it. A number of industries have experienced and survived tumultuous disruptions even more profound than those facing today’s incumbent carriers. Through these episodes there are companies that have survived and those that have succumbed. Best practices and successful strategies used by the leading incumbents in those industries serve to illustrate how carriers can successfully respond to today’s changing landscape. To commemorate Darwin’s 200th birthday, Feb 12 2009, let’s consider an Origin of Species lens to look at how industries might adapt to survive environmental change. Can the concept of Natural Selection be reasonably applied to technology innovation?

Sales 2.0: March 4-5, 2009 in San Francisco, CA
One of our customers, Will Stacy (Director of Marketing, Santander Consumer USA Inc.) will be speaking here and I am told…plans to say a few nice things about us. Ha.

  • Accelerating Productivity – New Sales 2.0 Tools on March 5th at 10:30am - Fasten your seatbelt. Three sales experts share their experience with adopting new Sales 2.0 tools that have dramatically accelerated their sales results. Learn about innovative solutions in mobile technology, e-signatures, online appointment setting, online collaboration and more. Each presenter will join a panel discussion designed to set priorities for implementing sales acceleration tools.

Next week, several of us pack our bags and head to Austin, TX for SxSWi. Our own Chuck Freedman has a nice little roundup of what we plan to get our hands in while there (Circus Mashimus, Chuck’s panel on the 16th) AND we will be announcing a fun little contest we have planed for the SxSWers as well, so stay tuned.
